UMKC - Health Sciences Building

The Clark Enersen Partners provided programming, architecture and engineering services for the 227,000 gsf Health Sciences Building in Kansas City, Missouri. The building provides UMKC a new state-of-the-art teaching and research facility for the Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing, greatly enhancing the interprofessional collaboration opportunities among faculty, students, and others.

The building contains over 50,000 square feet of research laboratories and a 30,000 square foot vivarium for comparative medicine research. As part of the Pharmacy curriculum, students take classes that focus on the hands-on dispensing and production of pharmaceuticals. As a continuation of that process, a small cGMP laboratory of Class 10,000 design was provided to enhance the pharmacy curriculum.

In addition to simulated teaching spaces for the School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy, the building includes many classroom areas ranging in size from small seminar rooms to 120 seat lecture halls. All spaces have integrated technology systems to facilitate an improved learning environment. The large lecture halls have been designed to meet each program’s distance learning needs with appropriate technology.
