Johnson County Sunset Office Building Water Quality Laboratory

Johnson County Sunset Office Building Water Quality Laboratory

The Clark Enersen Partners was assigned the task of designing and detailing the water quality laboratory for the Sunset Drive Office Building. This 10,200 square-foot area is located on the first floor of the facility and represents a key component of the County’s Wastewater Department. To facilitate the design process and maintain user involvement, a hands-on design workshop was held. This represented a key in developing a laboratory facility that integrated user and building needs into a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory.

The Sunset Drive Facility is a high-performance office building that is designed to be very efficient to own and operate. A high degree of adaptability and flexibility has been provided through the building’s moveable and changeable floor, wall, and ventilation systems. This approach allows modifications, resulting from growth and business process changes, to be accomplished quickly, efficiently, and in a cost-effective manner. The building has been designed and constructed to be extremely energy efficient from its highly insulated skin to its state-of-the-art heating and air conditioning systems. It is anticipated that the Sunset Drive building will operate with 40% lower energy costs than a typical office building.

The Sunset Drive Building is Johnson County’s first LEED Gold certified public building. The facility houses seven county administrative offices and serves as a sustainable educational experience in which the public can learn.
