UNMC - Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer & Allied Diseases

In our continuing relationship with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, we aided in their preparation of a NIH C06 grant to renovate the Eppley Cancer Institute. The grant was subsequently awarded and The Clark Enersen Partners served as the architect of record for its implementation.

The fully renovated facility consists of seven floors totaling 49,926 GSF.  It houses new research laboratory and support spaces as well as integrated administrative facilities. The new plan renovated the structure and organized the faculty and post-doctoral staff in group arrangements across from research areas to foster collaboration among research teams. The building was also reorganized vertically to allow shared functions and building utilities to stack which contributes to greater space utilization and efficiency.

A major feature of the renovation is the complete upgrade to all engineered systems. These upgrades included the replacement of the antiquated multi-unit air handling system with two 100% outside air AHU’s equipped with N + 50% redundancy, new exhaust, new plumbing and complete new electrical service.

Exterior improvement included replacement of existing window and curtain wall system, including new entrances. New exterior metal column and soffit cladding was installed, as well as a full roof replacement.  In addition to building envelope improvements, an ADA accessible entrance was added to the South façade facing the campus courtyard.
