Polynt Composites, R&D Laboratory Renovations
Clark & Enersen was selected by Polynt Composites to complete renovations to its main building in North Kansas City. The $3 million project involved relocating a large amount of equipment from the company’s Durham, North Carolina-based office. It also required mechanical, electrical, and plumbing coordination as well as maximizing space utilization within a historic, five-story brick building with low floor to floor.
Efforts in the application center on the building’s first floor included relocating equipment for training and demonstration of coating and fabrication techniques using resins produced by Polynt. The existing application center was modified to facilitate the new equipment and operations with the addition of new electrical service, rooms, and HVAC and plumbing systems. Other renovations on the first floor included modifying testing and laboratory spaces to allow for the relocation of operations from the Durham facility, including physical testing, sample preparation, furnace room, and water and heat testing spaces.
Work on the third floor included installing a new air handling unit and redundant lab exhaust fans with integral energy recovery, along with updated electrical and telecommunications distribution. On the fourth floor, office space was converted into composites and analytical laboratory spaces, all with access to chemical storage.
