University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Life Sciences Annex

Clark & Enersen was selected to completed a multiphase renovation of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s (UNL) Life Sciences Annex. The East Campus facility is capable of handling animals at a BSL-2 level and utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to research cancer, cardiovascular diseases, orthopedic issues, and more.

The overall plan was to upgrade the entire facility in phases, and the first step was to reconfigure interior spaces to improve operational efficiencies and introduce new systems to meet the overall demands of the program.

Examples of upgrades and additions include:

  • 17 new animal holding rooms, each with dedicated lighting, pressurization, and temperature controls.
  • New mechanical/electrical room designed to meet current and future needs.
  • Larger penthouse.
  • Energy recovery system to increase efficiency and decrease costs.
  • Demand-controlled ventilation to improve indoor air quality.
